Mardi Gras is March 8, 2011!

Do you like Mardi Gras, thinking about doing a little Mardi Gras Party or Dinner for your family. Why not step it up a little and get the kids involved and have some fun. Set your budget of $20 bucks for food and decorations see what you can do with that ! Have a fun family Mardi Gras party with food, decorations and Home made cup cake. Be sure to take lots of pics if you do this I would love to post them all!

1. Beads - Pop Popcorn in a pan with oil, add in some food coloring to the oil to make the color you desire. Do Purple, Green and Yellow. Let the kids string it to make necklaces. How cheap is that ! Bag of pop corn is normally $1

Dollar Store  Grab yourself festive mix and match napkins, plates, cups in Mardi Gras Colors ( Purple, Green, Yellow).  For about $3  bucks you can get  Napkins, Plates, Cups. 1 package of (8) of each. I would make each item a diff color to match the mardi gras colors.

Check out my post for some great cheap recipes and Coupon for main dish and sides here - designate $10 for food items Below

Jumbilia or Gumbo ( you can get a ring of polish sausage for about $1.50 at Walmart. I find that Zatarains Box Jamblaya is the best and use the coupon on above page. Can throw this dish together for about $3.00

Red Beans and Rice - Purchase a package of  Dry Red Beans, cover with water, throw in a ham hock , salt and pepper and cook slowly adding more water as needed . * Red beans normally $1 package, Smoked Ham Hock, usually about $1-$2 for a package of one or two. If you don't see one ask the meat man. Serve over warm white rice. Check to see what you have in your pantry and freezer first !

Fried Chicken (optional)- Is a normal Mardi Gras Staple. Grab a package of Chicken Legs or whats on sale, or do you have some in your freezer. Coat with flour, salt , pepper and fry in skillet with oil. Yummm.

Check out my post to make your own King Cake or King Cake Cup Cakes here- Bet you have most of this stuff in your pantry or fridge, if not designate the other $6.00 for needed items that you do not have in your pantry already.
