Nana's Home Made Vanilla Extract
I am so not into using imitation products or throwing my money away on them. I learned from early on from father about baking and the number one rule he instilled in me was to use "quality" . Real vanilla extract is top on my list , as well as other extracts . But paying $5 or more for a 1/2 ounce bottle of Real Vanilla Extract is alot of money. You can make your own that will last along time for alot less money in the long run. Its simple and only two ingredients and a little bit of patience.
Ingredients
- (2) Real Vanilla Beans
- Pint of Vodka
Directions
- Place your Vodka into a nice ball jar, Place your Vanilla Beans inside and place lid on tightly. Shake it twice a day for two weeks .
- After the two weeks You can strain it if you so desire into another jar, using a coffee filter to remove the bits, but personally I like the little bits of vanilla bean , it only adds extra flavor to your recipes.
- Be sure to Label your Jar - you can also place in smaller little jars and label them and give them as gifts at the holiday time.
So there you have it - Home Made Vanilla Extract for a fraction of what you will pay for those tiny 1/2 ounce bottles ~Enjoy !
