I live in an area where we love our leather products from coats, boots, belts and so much more. It is a must with our harsh conditions we have something gentle and effective in maintaining its true beauty and luster. A few years ago I lived on a farm and horses were my passion. If you ever cleaned your leather saddles- you know how important a good leather cleaner is. It is just important that you know how to , properly care for your valued leather. . Lets face it high quality leather items are not cheap and you want to maintain them for as long as you can !!
Also lets not forget my better half makes knifes and leather sheaths and more. As well as works with many leather products on a daily basis. Today he took this to the shop with him to test out on his pride and joy leather knife sheaths he makes to go along with his hand made knives.
Here is his experience today...
Today, I tried out a new product we received for cleaning and treating leather. The product is called Chamberlain's Leather Milk Leather Care Liniment No.1 Yup, that's a whole lot of name for one bottle.
Soooo, we broke out some leather... a Bianchi Holster, a Budd's rifle sling, my new (and recently stained left boot by Vasque, a rifle bolt shroud and rear bunny ear bag from Protekktor, a Gould &.Goodrich holster and a leftover swatch of premium leather from a knife sheath. All Items were cleaned per the instructions on the bottle. All items were left to sit and dry then lightly buffed. From the photo's it is mostly clear that everything came clean as predicted by the manufacturer.A couple of things I'll go ahead and point out before someone says "WHOA WHOA WHOA, RIGHT THERE MISTER" "The product manufacturer said NOT to use it on light or very soft leather/suede as it might darken the aforementioned material" "Yet you've gone and gooped it onto your $200 leather shooting rest and again on your bolt shroud and leather swatch"... Invariable someone would then ask "what'd ya go en do that fer???"
Well its like this people, I never really liked that shooting bag because it was so light colored, after every match I'd shoot, it showed dirty spots and rub wear... So I figured this was as good a chance as I was gonna get to darken it up a little without losing my textured surface. Guess what ??? It cleaned all the residue off the bag beautifully, and darkened it just enough for a seasoned look. I'd further like to point out, that it did not in fact change the color of the raw leather swatch, or if it did, I can't see it.
I must say that the treatment did an exceptional job on my duty holster, as well as my Bianchi holster and the left boot. The gun sling which was starting to dry out from years outdoors, was much more supple and returned nicely to its original condition. No staining or discoloration was observed on any of the test mules, except of course the Protekktor Shooting Bag. I found the odor of the product to be non-offensive (and downright tasty smelling by 3 pm when I hadn't eaten all day), and the residue on my hands washed up easily with soap and water.
In comparing this to the many leather products I've used for various applications in the past, I'd give it a 5 of 5 for a STAR rating. I would definitely recommend it for its intended application and I fully agree with it's use on all of the materials tested here, and more.
Hopefully we will be able to give you a rundown on the rest of the Chamberlain line in the near future.
So just what is ...Leather Care Liniment No. 1 ? It is a combination of rich, natural conditioners plus a gentle cleaner. How Chamberlain's Leather Milk was Born....
The Chamberlain’s scoured the market looking for the perfect leather conditioner to use. They wanted something that was natural to ensure the health and safety of their employees as well as the environment. They also wanted something that wouldn’t change the leather. After searching high and low and coming up empty, they decided to develop their own leather care recipe, and Chamberlain’s Leather Milk was born!
