Reading Rulers by, Crossbow Education Corp - Review
What is Visual Stress ?
Visual stress describes the discomfort experienced by some when viewing text. It affects 20% of the population, and 5% to the point of making reading very difficult. It can cause headaches, poor tracking, the apparent movement of words and letters, and slow or halting reading to name just a few symptoms. Unfortunately it is often misdiagnosed as a symptom of Dyslexia, when it is actually an entirely separate condition, caused by an imbalance of the visual cortex.
What are Reading Rulers?
Reading Rulers are a reading aid designed to relieve Visual Stress. They have been awarded the UK Special Needs Product of the year 2014 and are now available in the USA. These aids are used in over 60% of schools and colleges in the UK, however the extensive research into Visual Stress carried out in British Universities has not yet filtered across to the States. Crossbow Education have developed the reading rulers through a research based model, ensuring that the optimum palette of colors are available. They have designed them so that they not only are small and discreet (they look just like a bookmark), but also to work as a tracking device.
How to Test for Visual Stress this at Home:
Using "Reading Rulers" designed by Crossbow Education", it was fast and easy to do the test right at home. I did tests on both of the kids and found that our daughter suffers from it, but our son has no problems.
I was sent the Reading Rulers Packet The reading rulers come in packs of 10 colors and very full detailed directions- making it super easy to use and test . Also to ensure that the correct color for each individual can be identified.
Using the System to Test was easy as 1-2-3 and I love it can be done at home !
- 1. Choosing a room that the lighting your subject is used to reading in, proper sitting
- 2, Having the child read just the regular text on the white paper and starting with the Magenta see through ruler having them read and asking if it is better with our with out. Then going through them all , working through each colored see through ruler till you find the best one for the child or adult.
- 3. Our Daughter found the Yellow was best for her, and our son did not find any color helped. She has been using it since it arrived and loves it for her reading, and when I ask her about what she reads now - she is able to tell me vs before she was not comprehending what she read as well.
