Besides the odd name of this creation " Christmas Crack" . When you combine saltine crackers, butter, brown sugar and chocolate together. You will find a very addictive treat you can not put down ! I am in process of creating Christmas treats that can freeze and travel over this holiday , and OMG is this one a hit !!!
Ingredients
2 Sleeves of Saltines
3 Sticks of Butter or Margarine
1 1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar
3 Cups of Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
Directions:
Step 1
Line a large baking sheet with foil and spray heavy with nonstick cooking spray. Or is the bitter wrapper to grease it down. I used a 1/2 sheet for this. Then line saltines ( single layer) touching each other and fill the pan. This one took 2 sleeves.
Step 2
In a heavy pot add your butter and brown sugar and bring to a boil. Let boil for 3 minutes and shut off then give it a quick stir - be careful very hot !
after 3 minutes it will look like this below
Step 3
Pour this golden hot mixture over your crackers evenly , Pop in a 375 Degree oven for 6 Minutes and remove.
Step 4
Melt your chocolate chips in the microwave - I do mine in 1 minute intervals. Took about 2 minutes total for this. Stir in between..
Step 5
Pour your melted chocolate over your golden covered saltines
Step 6
Then you can top it with anything you like. As you can see from my photo below. I just grabbed things I had in by baking pantry. And divided it into 4 sections. One with holiday sprinkles, one with coconut, one with chopped pecans and the last with sea salt. After you do this , you will want to let it chill and harden up so you can crack it apart
Funny story on my cooling process. Living in the Adirondacks , its cold this time of the year so to save time I put my pan out on the front deck for a quick chill.
Step 7
When your creation is nice and chilled and firm, you simply start breaking it up into pieces an store in an air tight container and enjoy -
WARNING - THIS IS INCREDIBLY ADDICTING AND HARD TO STOP AT ONE PIECE !
