Christmas Swirl Sugar Cookies with a twist !

Christmas Sugar Cookies

I fell in love with making these cookies when I saw them. Such a neat way to re-create the sugar cookie recipe. I added a few twists to my recipe and have to say , I am quite pleased on how they turned out.

Recipe

  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 3 Cups Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Shortening
  • 1/2 Cup Softened Cream Cheese
  • 2 Whole Eggs
  • 1 Tbs Vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 Tsp Baking Soda

Directions:

In Mixer Bowl - Cream together Sugar, butter, shortening, cream cheese- then add in eggs one at a time and vanilla an mix well. Then in separate bowl mix flower, baking powder, baking soda and salt together and add to your wet mixture and mix well.

Divide 1/2 Dough and remove 1/2 - to the other 1/2 in mixing bowl add desired food coloring and mix till blended and desired color. Remove that. Place both 1/2's in separate plastic bags and chill for 1 hour.

Remove and then lay out parchment paper and then cover with plastic wrap and roll out to a nice oblong shape about 1/4 inc. Then do the other 1/2 the same way. Then lay the colored dough over the top of the other and roll up long ways.

Then roll in your desired colored sugars. to cover the outsides all around.

Then slice and make sure they are round.

Then bake on parchment paper or ungreased cookie pan for about 8 min at 320 degrees. Do not over bake them.

Let cool and enjoy - You can frost them, glaze them or eat them like they are. Store in a nice airtight container - these also freeze well.

Tip - You can make the dough up and have it rolled and wrap in parchment paper and store in fridge till ready to use.Makes for a nice slice and bake cookies with the kids
